Landscapes of the Gamhanraidh in Erris and Beyond: Táin Bó Fliodhais – The Cattle Raid of Mayo
Official Opening: Friday 1st February, 8pm
Artist Diana Taylor paints in a relatively loose, impressionistic style using the medium of oils on canvas with a knife. Her inspiration for this exhibition was to seek out and depict the locations and 2,000 year old remnants of the ring forts of the Iron Age inhabitants as described in the story of the Táin Bó Fliodhais and paint those landscapes as you find them today.
Through the series of paintings, the story of the Táin unfolds. The exhibition promises to pass on the story of the Mayo Táin, recalling this wonderful epic of Celtic Ireland in Erris and beyond.
The opening of the exhibition will include the launch of a book about the project and an illustrated talk.
Runs until 2nd March. Free admission. All welcome.
