PLOT / CEAPACH: Monica de Bath
Monica de Bath’s work explores land use and people’s relationship with the land. The methods and ideas behind the act of mining and act of rehabilitation is the focus of PLOT / CEAPACH.
Monica explains: “I was drawn to the return of a unique and often unnoticed plant species to areas of mined boglands, which makes peat...slowly and silently. Sphagnum peat mosses are re-establishing in and around the Wind Farm at Bellacorrick, in North Co. Mayo.”
PLOT 1 is located in the ongoing peat production fields of the Irish midlands, while PLOT 2 is immersed in the rehabilitation of mined boglands in Mayo.
These paintings and trans-plantation of sphagnum began with conversations on site visits with ecologists and with some of the remaining workers on industrially mined Irish peatlands.
Admission free. All welcome. Runs until 29th September.
