Looking for the Void: Andrew Chatalov School of Art Exhibition
From:January 5, 2012 20:00 to: January 28, 2012 15:00
Location: Ballina Arts Centre
Official Opening: Thursday 5th January, 8pm
Andrew Chatalov School of Art is a Ballina-based school of artists, founded by Russian-born artist Andrew Chatalov in the early 2000s.
This exhibition looks at what Andrew describes as ‘the Depictive and the Indicative’ in art.
He explains: “The Depictive Art challenge is to establish emotional contact with the ‘void’, and to enclose the obtained information in images that can be recognized by our modern human consciousness”.
For a number of years, this group of artists has been working towards this task, tracing a route from a basic introduction to simple geometrical forms of drawing, through to more complex forms such as still-life and portraiture.
“But the main thing is”, Andrew believes, “to look for the ‘void’, and inspiration is the only way to get closer. This exhibition will show how close they are.”
Andrew Chatalov holds a BA from Tashkent Art Institute, and an MA in Art & Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin. He is a practicing artist and has been teaching art in Ballina for almost ten years.
Admission free. All welcome. Exhibition runs until 28th January.
